Dimension 6 : Transcendent Purpose

The 6th dimension inspires your worklife to be an expression of a deeper level of self-realization that is beyond self, beyond ego, and a vehicle for the betterment of all living things.

At Transcendent Purpose, you understand that the world faces a potential series of local-to-global crises frequently referred to as “wicked problems”. The reason they are wicked is because there’s no easy solution, only potential movement towards better outcomes.

Wicked problems include the multiple environmentally related crises of air, water and soil pollution, resource depletion, ecological collapse, and climate change. Added to that is the global health and obesity crisis, the Covid pandemic, coupled with pervasive hunger and poverty, financial inequality, terrorism, and the move towards authoritarianism. It is no wonder that people everywhere are increasingly looking to business to help ameliorate these conditions and move towards creating a better future for all humanity. This desire for a better world is exemplified by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Describing the nature of this level of purpose at work is not straight-forward because Transcendent Purpose is idiosyncratic and profoundly personal. It is reflective of a worklife that is striving to transcend the inherent limitations of current reality, both personal and collective, to generate a better world for all.

This is the realm of insightful care and creativity, rebalancing your world based on what’s possible with the knowledge that all of reality is interdependent and interpenetrating. This requires a radical self-acceptance of who you are and what’s possible in a complex world of uncertain outcomes. It is shaped by a deeper sense of self-love and compassion for all living things.

Analysis

If your highest Purpose Score, or one of your highest, is in the 6th dimension, then you consider your work to truly be a life calling. Your worklife is a major component of your self-identity and you would not feel whole and complete without its presence in your life.

You are committed to finding ways forward that are based on an ethic of care for your coworkers, your clients, the markets you serve, and the planet at large. Transformation, not just incremental change, is at the core of your vision for what’s possible. You also have the wisdom to know that the way forward is neither easy nor straight. It requires innovation, experimentation, and boldness. But it also requires compassion and a real understanding that like all Nature’s creatures, we are all one.

Recommendation

If your motivations for work are based in the 6th dimension then you likely bring a level of enthusiasm and courage to your work that others admire. But the transformation of markets, industries, and the socio-economic systems that humanity has developed over decades and centuries cannot be done in isolation. You acknowledge that you are part of a larger movement of people and organizations seeking to create a better future where humanity can flourish in new and yet unknown ways.

Success in the 6th dimension, as in the 5th, requires the foundation of clear motivations concerning Cultural, Affinity and Existential Purpose. You might consider reviewing those other dimensions to not only see where you scored high, but potentially scored low, so that you can focus on creating YourWHY@Work that is balanced and centred in support of your highest aspirations.
