Further exploration into Purpose@Work

YourWHY@Work assessment focuses on your feelings and attitudes towards the work you’re doing, your work environment, and the people you work with. It focuses on the underlying motivations for working in the first place and how well your organization is responding to your motivations and reasons for working.

It is a snapshot in time. But your worklife, like everything else, is constantly changing and evolving. The Six Dimensions of Purpose@Work reveals the many motivations and reasons we all have for working. And it’s a tool for navigating higher levels of purpose. In this way you can create purpose in each dimension in order to more fully develop a career and potentially pursue a higher calling while also helping your organization be successful.

Developmental and aspirational

As you see from the six dimensions, your purpose for working—YourWHY@Work—goes far beyond pursuing a simple paycheck. It has to do with who you are as a human being, including your desire to be a valued member of society, applying your talents, connecting with others, having a sense of belonging, striving for personal excellence, contributing to the greater good, and creating possibilities in an evolving world of change and opportunity.

In this way the Six Dimensions of Purpose@Work provides an aspirational map for how your worklife can lead to greater self-understanding and deeper connections as you uncover what really matters to you. In short, your worklife has the potential, should you choose, to exist as a fuller, more authentic expression of who you are.

Pursuing higher levels of purpose can provide a greater sense of accomplishment and personal fulfillment by expressing your whole authentic self in service of others and the wider world.

Climbing the purpose pyramid

Pursuing higher dimensions of purpose that satisfy your greater potential beyond the basics gives you the space and capacity to stretch yourself in the higher levels of the purpose pyramid.

Realizing your fullest potential at work is no different from other areas of your life. We all want to be the best we can be., but not everyone knows how.

Climbing the purpose pyramid is an aspirational journey for achieving greater fulfillment at work, including being in-service and making a positive difference.

What is your higher calling in the world? What do you really want to achieve and be known for? There are many problems facing the world today. Your work can have an impact, should you choose to challenge yourself to do more and be more.

The future is ours to work for

At Greater Meaning, we believe everyone needs to roll up their sleeves and work towards creating a better world for all.

Of course, not everyone—maybe not most—are going to do so. But if enough of us consider what’s possible within the higher dimensions of purpose at work and begin pursuing a worklife that generates more meaning, engagement and fulfillment, then there is indeed hope for humanity.
